Consumer protection: How do I cancel a Direct Debit mandate?

At any time, you can permanently cancel a Direct Debit mandate by requesting it be revoked (also referred to as cancellation) by the merchant in question, at which time s/he must stop sending SEPA Direct Debit requests based on this mandate. We strongly advise that you inform your bank at the same time, and keep a record of your cancellation request. It does not usually cost anything to revoke a mandate. If you still owe a balance to the merchant, you must pay the amount due by another means, respecting the agreed-upon schedule and due dates. A SEPA Direct Debit mandate becomes null and void when no payment request has been received within 36 months of the date of the last direct debit.
